Between This Life and Other Worlds (Expanded Edition) The History and Culture of Christian Cemeteries in Hong Kong
Cemeteries are an indispensable part of reconstructing the history of Christianity in Hong Kong
This book takes the Christian cemeteries in Hong Kong as the starting point to analyze the multi-layered interaction and interweaving of the history of Christianity in Hong Kong and the history of Chinese society in Hong Kong, and covers the reasons for the emergence and evolution of Christian cemeteries, the changes in the nature of Western Christian cemeteries, the establishment of Chinese Christian cemeteries, and the belief and cultural issues related to funeral customs. This book not only explores the issues related to cemeteries from a multifaceted perspective, but also highlights the importance of cemetery research in the reconstruction of local history from a broader perspective.
The revised edition significantly adds tombstones that were not included in the first edition, including Happy Valley Hong Kong Cemetery and Pok Fu Lam Chinese Christian Cemetery, etc., and traces the lives of relevant figures, supplemented by two newly collected articles by the author, leading us to broaden the life testimony stories of the sages and sages from the grave to reflect on the meaning of life and death beliefs in the great era.
