Hong Kong Takes Flight: Commercial Aviation and the Making of a Global Hub, 1933–1998
As Hong Kong developed into a powerful economic entity, commercial aviation gradually took shape. Dr. Wong believes that Hong Kong's potential to become a regional and global aviation hub is not an inevitable result of the era of global mobility. "Hong Kong Takes Flight" explores how Hong Kong transformed into an aviation hub, describing the globalization originating from Asia and regional structures, as well as the process of global network formation.
The author examines Hong Kong's globalization from the perspective of the aviation industry, and discusses how Hong Kong policymakers and businesspeople work with international partners and competitors to find opportunities for social and economic benefits while safeguarding their own interests. They negotiate their interests based on Hong Kong's economic success and clearly express their views on modernity.
