Unknown Rough Architecture in Hong Kong
The 1960s and 1980s were the years between the post-war period and the economic take-off. The avant-garde design adds a cosmopolitan touch to the local cityscape. At the same time, it also reflects the cultural landscape of the time: unpretentious, the spirit of pursuing basic life. Based on the study of post-war architectural history, this book hopes to open the door to discussion and for professionals, conservationists and the general public to search for the "unknown" fate of these buildings. During the period from 2020 to 2023, a total of 20 members of the research team spontaneously visited halls, schools, universities, and architectural offices to meet with senior architects or their families, and visited London to conduct archival literature searches and oral history interviews, repurchase second-hand books and slides that had been lost abroad, and gradually construct a complete set of local rugged architectural works and fill in the gaps in history, involving 26 related institutions and 53 people, and excavating more than 80 lost archives such as original hand-drawn drawings, physical models of more than half a century, and old photographs.
