Paper chain - design aesthetics test chain
The book "Chains on Paper: The Trial of Design Aesthetics" uses alchemy as a metaphor to point out the similarities between book design and alchemy, so as to explain what book design is. Alchemy is a way of understanding the world. Start by grasping the principle of things and explore the truth of the world. The principles of alchemy and book design are "understanding, decomposing, and reconstructing". After understanding the structure of the object, the alchemist tries to break it down and refine it into something else. If you think about it, these three basic principles actually have something in common with book design. Book designers, like alchemists, are doing similar things. Although the tunes are different, the craftsmanship is the same. Chen Xicheng, the author and book designer, reorganized and compiled his long-term thinking, research, experience, craftsmanship, and practice on the art of book design into a book. Some of the essays were written many years ago, while others are newly created, interweaving past and present, blending words and images, reshaping them into a book for the reader.
