Woodily Made In Hong Kong
Woodily Made in Hong Kong is a book revisiting the significance of Hong Kong's wooden furniture crafts by collecting stories from three generations of local carpenters and dialogues with designers. The book intends to demonstrate the uniqueness of Hong Kong woodcraft in traditional Chinese-style furniture, western-style furniture and modern woodcraft. The authors, Yung Yan and Sarah Mui, together with design researcher Ire Tsui, through interviews with local craftsmen, documented the craftsmen's perseverance in the perfection of craftsmanship, their care for wood as a material, and their insights in cultural inheritance and innovation. Hong Kong woodcraft has been an important witness to the city's economic development, and only through fostering public appreciation for woodcraft, young people can understand and learn this intangible cultural heritage again.
