Cheng Po-hung, consultant of the Hong Kong Museum of History, will talk to you about the changes in Hong Kong.
In response to the development needs, Hong Kong's urban area has undergone numerous reclamations, demolitions and redevelopment of old districts, and the cityscape has been constantly changing. In 1841, the first reclamation of Hong Kong's Central District was completed, and landmarks such as the City Hall, the new General Post Office and Exchange Square were completed. Central and Sheung Wan have been developed for many years and have become a high-end commercial area integrating consumption, banquet and drink.
In the early days, Wan Chai was known as the Sun, Moon and Star Street of Cedar Pai, but since the 1990s, it has been transformed into a high-end residential area and a leisure area in Lan Kwai Fong. Around 1950, the Xuan Palace (Imperial Capital) and the Metropolis Cinema opened in North Point, which was as prosperous as Causeway Bay is today.
