Hong Kong Takes Flight: Commercial Aviation and the Making of a Global Hub, 1933–1998
As Hong Kong developed into a powerful economy, commercial aviation gradually took shape. Dr Wong believes that Hong Kong's development into a regional and global aviation hub is not an inevitable consequence of the era of global mobility. Exploring Hong Kong's transformation into an aviation hub, Hong Kong Takes Flight aims to narrate the process of globalisation stemming from inter-Asian and regional structures and the formation of global networks.
The author examines Hong Kong's globalization from the perspective of the aviation industry, and explores how Hong Kong's policymakers and business people are working with international partners and competitors to identify opportunities for socio-economic benefits, negotiate their interests in relation to Hong Kong's economic success, and articulate their views on modernity.
