The Light of the Republic - Literature and Culture in the Early Years of the Republic of China
This book contains nine articles, with the title of "The Light of the Republic", which seems to imprint my original impulse, which is more than ten years ago, and I saw a lot of beautiful covers when I was flipping through the newspapers and magazines of the Republic of China...... I wondered why these magazines appeared in 1914. In addition, "Minquan Su", "Novel Series", "Women's World", "Prosperous Magazine", "Xiangyan Magazine", "Shanghai Tang", etc., all use beautiful women as covers, printed in lithographic color, painters gathered for a while, Zhou Muqiao, Xu Yongqing, Zheng Mantuo, Ding Wei, Shen Bochen, Dan Du Yu, Zhou Baisheng, Hu Boxiang, etc., why are they in sync? Where does the image of beauty come from? What is the cultural connotation? Since then, they have been very active in the art world, not only on magazine covers, but also in comics, Baimei pictures, monthly cards and other fields. In a sense, it was these magazine covers that brought Chinese art into the modern era, one step ahead of the Academy of Graphic Arts of Wu Shiguang, Liu Haisu and others.
