A brief history of Nantou
Nantou has been the administrative center of the Lingnan coastal area, a coastal defense fortress, a distribution center for maritime transportation and foreign trade in the past dynasties. It is also the historical and cultural source of Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Macao. It served as the seat of Xin'an (Bao'an) County from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Republic of China. The author has been conducting field research on the city and its surrounding areas since the 1980s. The historical sites listed in the book, such as the Shenjiang Mansion, Jiexiaocí, Baodeci, Dongguan Assembly Hall, and Nantou Catholic Church, may have been lost long ago, or may not return to their original appearance, but they will be passed down forever through writing.
