Echoes of Chongqing: Women in Wartime China (second edition)
During the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression, although the entire Chinese people suffered a lot, women experienced many unique hardships. The pain of childbirth, the loss of children, the heavy burden on families, and the frequent occurrence of sexual assault and violence have been compounded... But women are not just passive victims, they are also participants in anti-Japanese activities, wartime production organisers, survival strategy planners, and daily life supporters.
This female-centered oral history of the War of Resistance unearths for us this group that has lost its voice in history, revealing that the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression is also a history of social gendering. Women's contributions, often intricately intertwined in everyday life, are inconspicuous, but in fact, it is their determination, wisdom and resilience that have preserved their wartime homes and countries. And the woman's perspective brings out the rare daily aspect of war narration - war is not only a military game, a high-level struggle, but also daily life, and the battlefield is not only on the front line, but also at home, in the fields, in the bomb shelters, in the factories...
