The Unfinished May Fourth: Historical Scenes and Intellectual Discourses
There have been many key moments in the history of mankind, and its tremendous radiation power has had a decisive impact on future generations. For example, the French Revolution was to the French, and the May Fourth was to the Chinese. In terms of ideology and culture in 20th century China, the May Fourth Movement was the most worthy of sustained and serious dialogue with China. It can even be said that looking back on the 1,000-year history of China, the most creative ideological and cultural movement is none other than May Fourth.
Chen Pingyuan, a professor of Peking University, has written classic articles on May Fourth for nearly 25 years, which are compiled into this collection of essays of a rather polemical nature. As the most vigorous period of modern Chinese thought, May Fourth is no longer monolithic, but full of dynamism and complexity, respectable, lovely, lamentable, and pity. In addition to leading us to touch the rich and vivid historical scene, he particularly emphasized the role of May Fourth as a "whetstone of thought": to let the thinking of the May Fourth generation sharpen the thinking of the current generation.
